Our direct aim is to provide world-class, professional automotive service, in an approachable, friendly atmosphere.

Quantum Mechanics is comprised of:

Jonathan Tondreau, Manager
Jonathan's acute curiosity had him taking apart and reassembling things from an early age. In his teens, he began working on RVs, building his mechanical and electrical knowledge. In 2004, Jonathan took a job as a technician at a local automotive shop, further refining his craft. As time rolled on, so did Jonathan's abilities.

In November of 2005, Jonathan attained his private pilot license and flies regularly. Several of us can attest that Jonathan has a mean three-point landing in his quiver!

A keystone of the Quantum Mechanics team since the very beginning, Jonathan now brings so much poise and talent to the table, that he's been promoted all the way to Manager. With his calm demeanor and keen sense of humor, Jonathan is in charge of all daily shop operations.

Aaron Freeman, Do-All Extraordinaire
Aaron moved to Atlanta in 1998 and comes to us from an illustrious 15 year bicycle industry career. Aaron has been dabbling with 1970s BMWs  for years. His personal collection currently includes a '72 BMW 2002 track car, as well as a sharp '74 BMW 2002tii street car.

Quantum Mechanics is privileged to have Aaron do some of everything around the shop. From service coordinating with customers and technicians, to parts purchasing and inventory management, to hands-on automotive work, Aaron is nothing short of our Do-All Extraordinaire!

On an interesting side note, Aaron occasionally moonlights as what some might describe as an underground racing bicycle mechanic mercenary. Others might describe him simply as a bicycle mechanic ninja. When there's a truly discriminating cyclist that needs a $15-20k+ bicycle built or serviced, often there's no bicycle shop trusted with the task. In this case, Aaron might, just might, be persuaded to adorn the ninja garb and answer the call. This is strictly on his personal schedule, with pre-payment in the form of 55 gallon garbage bags containing non-sequential US bills, Swiss bank wire-transfers, or in especially rare cases, for un-serialized silver or gold bullion. But please don't even mention this topic unless you're an agent representing an established continental or international race team (hi, Brian Nygaard). And remember, you didn't read it here...

Erick Carlson, Owner
A Decatur, Georgia native and originally trained as a machinist, Erick seamlessly went from car enthusiast, to automotive technician in the late 90's. Then during the 2005 and 2006 seasons, Erick worked with professional Porsche race team, Tafel Racing, as a fly-in technician. In 2006, following the closure of his longtime employer, Decatur Automotive Center, Erick decided to pursue his German and Japanese car specialty. Fueled with passion for these specific types of cars, his vision began evolving into reality with his formation of Quantum Mechanics in the fall of 2006.
Erick has also been heavily involved in bicycle racing since the early 90's, and in 2006 earned his semi-professional license for downhill mountain biking racing. In 2009, he again was upgraded, this time to the professional racing class. In the same year, he won the Georgia Criterium Road Race championship for category 4. In 2010, he secured second place in the Georgia Cross-Country Mountain Bike Race series for professional and expert racers in his age group. Erick is proud that Quantum Mechanics is able to sponsor our own Quantum Mechanics Bicycle Race Team.

And just for fun, Erick offers you $5 off of any repair if you can name the F1 Grand Prix track pictured behind him in the above photo!

Jason Jones, Lead Technician
Jason's 15+ years of experience and staggering amount of knowledge in the automotive field is a real asset here at Quantum Mechanics.

Jason and Erick first crossed paths years ago when they were both employed by another local automotive shop. When Erick was forming Quantum Mechanics, he knew an experienced senior technician would be a critical asset, and Jason has not disappointed. Most recently, Jason specialized in BMWs, but has also worked extensively on exotic European automobiles. Over the years, Jason has accumulated remarkable depths of experience with every one of the brands we service.

Jason is also an avid bicycle racer for the Quantum Mechanics Bicycle Race Team, specializing in velodrome and criterium events.
JJ's motto: "Fix it like your grandmother will be driving it."

Chris "Chicken" Hovatter, Technician

Chris and Erick originally crossed paths many moons ago through the worlds of urban cycling and mountain bike racing. During the '90s, Chris was a bicycle courier, battling the streets of downtown Atlanta. He eventually became a watercraft technician, and later, a BMW automotive specialist. In the fall of 2009, Chris decided to leave a BMW dealership and take an opportunity to join the Quantum Mechanics team.

In his spare time, Chris feverishly competes in mountain bike racing for the Quantum Mechanics Bicycle Race Team, and fabricates his own line of Chicken Bikes.
